finally got around to making my cold air intake for my 87 ranger. i bought the intake from a neighbor for $5, was for a honda. so i cut it and added a bend, sensor adaptor, and vacuum adaptor and the filter. turned out good.

Just so I'm clear - what exactly is 'cold air' about that intake?

i get it, it's not technically a "COLD AIR" intake as it's sucking hot air from the engine compartment.

Cool, now you just need to run it out of the engine compartment, so it really is cold air.

Yeah dont get them started on that one, the intake nazi's will perform a benchtest holocaust on you. It does however look real good. Myself I would have opted to stretch it just a little farther if possible and mount hte filter in the fender, this will get you closer to the "cold air" side of htings.

that falls under the category of a SRI still short ram intake, in order to be called a cold air intake it has to be routed in a far corner away from the engine and usually tucked out of the way,i was gonna make an intake for my 88 but i got a idle air control valve on my airbox so idno if i could fab that thing up to stick on the side of an intake tube or not, plus i got that other small vacuum hose and two other small lines but the IACV seems to be the pain, plus i cant figure out a good place for a filter to be routed.

mine had the sensor on the airbox as well. i bought the adaptor at autozone for it. and i bought the vacuum adaptor for the lines.

Cold or not cold, your intake is definitely high flow and it looks great! Good job and enjoy the few extra ponies and gas mileage you just picked up.:headbang:
If you wanted to do anymore to it I would build or salvage from the honda a barrier from that hot engine.
