yeh i bet everyone laughing but would it even help our 2.8? mine has just the 9" round air cleaner now and it suxs I could imagine its just hot air going into it and wonder if it help too put a carb hat on and then run like a 3" pipeing too the front grille area . I allso got question about a mod I did recently i put a thrush weld muffler which is basically a flowmaster 40 or two chamber style and ran it on passenger side in front of tire and gutted my cat would the gutted cat hurt my power? or gas mileage I got truck tuned perfect with duraspark and dont get good mileage maybe 11 city and 15hwy. wish i had a 5spd but its a 3spd with 3.08 gears has anyone had 2.8 with 5spd and geared 4.10 wonder if it have pep too it

If it sucks air from under the hood, it hot air intake.

Im running mine durasparked too, 3.73 gears and a TK4 tranny with 32 M/t tires and Im getting 10 mpg. And even before I did anything to it, still got the same mileage.

I would say your gearing is killing you. Do you know what your rpms are?

The standard air filter housing used to have a tube connected to it to pick up cold air from behind the left headlight. They also had a heat box on the left manifold to supply warm air when needed, and as they tended to suffer from carb icing, I don't think removing it is a good idea. My 84 b2 with 33's 4:10's durasparked with gm module and manual metering block on original carb used to average around 20 mpg on the highway.

idk what rpm i turn

I know the damn truck will do top out speed at 80mph in 2nd gear lol its a damn airplane I wonder how much difference it make too gear it from 3.08 too 3.73. it feels strong when ever i get at least 35-40mph and kick it.

Well your acceleration will be faster but it will make your rpms go up and top speed go down. The 2.8 has max torque at 2600rpm and max HP at 4600rpm. With mine when I hit 4600 rpm in first I can fell the drop off in power.

mine has 397000 allso

that may be why its so weak its got 397000 on the orginal engine and tranny too lol, i took it too dragstrip where i use too race my sleeper minivan 1986 astro van with sbc 350 th350 tranny ran with 2.73 gear at 8.42 in 1/8mile, anyways the truck did it with 3.08 gear 12.45 in 1/8 whoopie shitty slow wonder if it make big difference with 4.10 gearing

Ya you may have some blow by and what not and with those many miles on her, she wil have a loss in power and performance.

Have a 83 ranger 2.8 auto trans (the famous C3) 3.08 gear ratio, p225/15 tire. Did the dura spark conversion and replaced the feed back carb with a 1.08 motorcraft 2 barrel, running 47 main jet, have the timing set using the total timing method set at 38' with the vacuum advance disconnected. Truck went from 13 mpg around town to 18/19 mpg around town, and runs a lot better.

Getting ready to rebuild the engine as it has the typical high mileage Ranger smoke when starting.
Plans are to get the comp. ration to 9.5. install the 2.9 valves, mild port work, and the first comp cam pick. the one for mileage. Hopefully will be able to find a set of headers, and put a free flowing exhaust system. Next is change the trans to the A4LD overdrive and change the rear axle to a 3.73 or maybe a 4.10....

I get 10mpg no matter how I drive her in town. Highway keeping her at 55-60mph I get 15mpg, if the wind isnt fighting me.
