I'm a bit curious on the effect a cold air intake will have on a ranger. I've heard that it add a few Horses and can boost fuel economy, but is it enough to help the average driver, and should I look into one? Can y'all recommend one if it's worth it?

You should reaed before asking questions~

yOUR VEHICLE CAME WITH A COLD AIR INTAKE FROM THE FACTORY. The intakes that "claim" this or that are all junk. There is no gain from any of them and most actually give a loss in milage.. No matter what the ads say. There should be a law against false advertising.

The performance gains can be questioned, because no one has taken the time to actually do a before and after dyno with a CAI on a 3.0. Myself, and many others have seen mileage gains though. My MAC has been on for 2 years with no issues whatsoever, and I gained ~2mpg out of the deal. It was worth the $170 to me just for the mileage improvements.

if there is any improvement, its because the engine can breath a little better.

yes its already designed to pull cool air in, and a "cold air intake" eliminates this most of the time.

if you want real horsepower just put a few stickers and a 3ft wing on. thats where its at.

i have a k&N CAI and if you don't balls to the walls with it i seen a little bit more mpg like maybe 2-3.... but also, you get more throttle response... it doesn't bring cold air really. just less restrictive air flow... it helps i believe personally

Then it wouldn't be a great benifit to me, cause i drive ballz to the wallz. I figured out i got 16.9 mpg last tank, which did not impress me

I put a K&N on and got 17 mpg. I took it off just to see what I would get.....19.5...

Sold it on ebay the next day. Waste of time and money.

i get 21mpg on my ranger. thats with the k&n drop in filter and my foot off the gas with the cruise set at 60. and i commute 130 mies and its not all free way. i tried the said cold air in take and it killed my MPG and not the power intake i expected. i would go with the k&n drop in and keep your foot off the petal. unless neccessary. if you want power. get a programer and check tom morrana web site. there are alot of great things on there if you want to spend the money.
