Cold air intake 2008 fx4

Consider a programmer instead of the chip. The chips are problematic and require some labor to install/remove. A programmer is about $100 more, but it can read codes, and make changes to the PCM. Additionally, if you have a warranty problem, 5 minutes with the programmer at the OBDII port and it is removed with no evidence it was ever in there. My .02.

If you take a look at the Jet Chips they are hella easy to install or remove. Especially on the newer rigs because the comp is in the open, not set into the firewall. And the new comps just have harnesses that you put the chip in front of. On my 97 the PCM is in the firewall and I installed it in 10 minutes. I could remove it in even less. Making it too easy in these newer trucks.

I had one and it went bad. Caused all kinds of problems until I figured it out. Threw that bitch in the trash and bought a programmer. Not a single issue since then.

I suppose if youve had a bad experience with them your right. I am just putting out there that I have nothing bad to say about my chip. I am getting better mileage and its way peppier. 25Mpg at my last fill up, and I keep my foot in it pretty deep.

yea ive heard that those jet performance chips were very good also! definitely going to consider doing that! as for the programmer, i have to do some research into that, but i will probably get one or the other, ill keep you posted on what i do!

I'll tell you what mine did so you'll know if yours starts to go bad- first, it slipped out of drive into nuetral going about 70- I let off the gas and it slipped back into gear no biggie. The truck only had about 1,500 miles on it back then. It only did this a few times but still spooky. Then the PATS system started going haywire, it didn't recognize the key- the theft light would blink really fast. Finally the PATS system shut the starter down and it wouldn't crank. I removed the chip and no problem...

got an airraid cold air intake for my 02 ranger and it works great

I'll believe it when I see the numbers. So far nobody has been able to come up with them.

:icon_idea:OOOOOHHHHHHHH! I think Ive got it figured out! Yours is an Automatic! I didnt even consider that yours isnt a 5-speed. I have absolutely no experience with these units on auto trannys. On a manual tranny it's working great. That actually makes me feel a little better about mine. I was worrying about negative effects and have been skeptical of every aspect of my truck, and paying a ton of attention to the way my engine is acting.
