ok guys on my 88' ranger it came with an 8" suspension lift...i am in the process of swapping in a d35 and now that i have the coils out i realized that the bottom diameter of the coil is larger than that of a ranger or explorer making it fit right over top of the lower coil bucket not even contacting it...so obviously the guy before me put coils on this truck that were not for a ranger...is there a coil bucket that is bigger to hold these springs? anyone who has used maybe fullsize coils on a ranger what did you do anout needing a bigger lower coil bucket?

....odd, I used TTB F150 coils on my D35 TTB setup just fine. It's possible he swapped in jeep or solid axle F150 coils. DO you have pics of what kind of bottom wrap the coils have?

Here ya go...

Hope these help..even the small end of the coil goes overtop the stock d35 coil bucket....

can i just grab a set of early ford f150 coild buckets? do they mount the same with the stud through the middle?

You will have to drill a hole in the center of the F150/Bronco retainers to get the stud through. You will also need to space them up about 3/4" min to clear the knuckle.

Having custom ones is your best bet. I've got no problems running mine. Sorry i don't have any clear pictures of mine.

what do you mean by custom ones? are there any companies that you know of that sell them with the holes already drilled? or should i just pull some from the junk yard?

Take Solid Axle lower spring plates and weld a stack of washers underneath it high enough to clear the knuckle and big enough to fit around the TTB stud nut OR weld a 3/4" plate on that has the center cut to fit. Make sure to drill the stud hole aligned properly and just big enough so that the coilplate stays centered on it.

Next solution would be to sell/trade for some proper fitting coils if fabbing isn't your thing.

Wahlstrom: so how are the straight axle ford lower coil buckets attached? I'm guessing they don't have a bolt running through the middle like the d35? I saw an f150 at the jy the otherday with some sort of TTB front end would those coil buckets be an larger?

They run the same style as the Ranger's TTB just slightly larger. The Solid Axle coil plates use two 7/16" bolts into the radius arms. You'll have to drill a hole large enough for the center stud of the D35.

i see so on the straight axle fords that smaller black piece fits over the coil and the bolts run through both plates to retain the coil...where did you get that pic from, so i can just buy a new set.

also the top retaining clip that you have in the pic is the same type that is on my truck...i know rangers dont come witht hat style retaining clip...so he must of pulled the upper retaining clips from the same solid axle ford.so basically i need to know where to buy that exact set of buckets u have in the pic.
