last night my 94 4.0 started missing bad,it got to the point it wouldnt move without dieing, was idleing at 100rpm and smelled of gas ,i started messing with the coil wires and it got a little better but it then shut off and wouldnt start, iwent out this morning and it crankeded right up and ran fine pulled all coil wires one at a time and the motor didnt fall while pulling coil wires 1,2,4,5,6 but for #3 it did, also saw a diffrence in spark between number 3 and the rest, i suspect a bad coil but if it was a bad coil when it cooled would it run right, any thoughts on this would help

Sounds like a bad coil with poor idling & gas smell. It wouldn't hurt to put in a new coil-

Coil pack. Get a new one.

that was my suspision but the dirastic change form barly running to good as new is what stumps me

Heat. It sounds like it is giving out when it gets hot.

Frankly it would probably be prudent to do a full tune up before doing anything else.

i intend to friday when i get the coil but i've heard hear say that with a distrbuterless ignition system you have to run a plaitnum spark plug witch i didnt do when i last changed them is this something i should try or just a hock
