Alright ive been putting a 4 inch lift on my ranger for the past few days and dealing with that hell of a mess I'm almost done. I went to turn the coil springs into their buckets and they go on so far then fall out. I noticed that they are bigger then the originals so I tried to put one of the originals back in but they did the same thing. Turned in and then fell out. I'm lost as what to do now.

Do you have drop brackets for the radius arms or long arms?

If using stock arms and drop brackets for the them, you may need a pry bar to pry the arm down to make enough room for the coil while you "turn" it and the windings catch on the several hooks under the coil buckets. Other that that should just go in without too much of a hiccup.

I have drop brackets and stock arms. They catch on the hooks but i can get them to twist so far but then they are not sitting were they need to be. Then i pull the arm down to put the spring over the bolt on the arm and it falls out.

check to see if the spring tabs are broken off in the coil bucket. had that happen to mine when i put 6" coils in. all i did was make a 90 degree bracket and bolted it to the bucket for now and bent the inside end up a bit to hopefully keep it from falling out. hope this helps

I had one of my SJ coils doing that, it was just binding a little. All i did was use a hammer and gave it a few strikes in the direction i wanted to to get it to spin. Once i got it past the tight part it spun right in place

You can also hammer the little tangs inside the coil bucket so they are more or less loose depending on what you need them to do.

True, Its all steel you dont have to be scared to use a little force

Alright guys I will give those ideas a try and see what happens.

They are supposed to have one. I cut mine off when I installed F150 coils, but then switched to Skyjacker coils and used a hose clamp to hold them in.

The '76 and '88 f-150 2wd I owned had a coil retainer 'J' style retainer tab that bolts to the top of the coil bucket, and the more than three '87-'91 rbv's I own do not - they are twist in. I would add a 'J' style tab if I couldn't figure out the problem, or try the hose-clamp.

Yeah if the tangs are messed up and won't hole the coil in you gotta get a J clamp from another ford, common practice. Otherwise the coils could fall out.

Usually the tangs hold the coils in very good after you twist them in, and with the weight of the vehicle on them they shouldnt be able to come out.

Ok now I'm wondering if I got the correct coils for the front. I put the 4 inch blocks in the rear and it didnt even come close to leveling it. Before I did the lift the front measured 2.5" from the fender to the top of the tire. Now it measures 11.5" from fender to tire. Am I suppose to have that height afterwards?
