That doesn't look that bad to me... Maybe I'm just not seeing it. :dunno:

Check behind the bucket where it's up against the frame, and on the top around the 'fingers'. Any severe rust/cracks/holes in those areas would be bad, but what I see there some rust converter & paint should fix.

I pulled a 1-1/2x1-1/2x3/16 piece of metel out of it, it left a corrisponding hole with dead sharp edges right behind the shock. No way to get a pic of it without pulling the shock.

It is crap getting behind the bucket that caused it, 95% of the part looks fine to me. The 5% worries me enough to get it added to the to-do list though.

I know whereabouts you're talking (crap gets into that 'pocket' behind the mount and traps moisture in there). Yeah, I'd definitely replace it if there's a hole through it.

Will the duff buckets work the same with a TTB suspension ? I've been wanting a set of them I haven't called to ask

I am sure Duff's sell them by them selves for TTB. They came with my 5.5 kit and man are they ever built super solid.

Yes they will. I'm also using JD lower seats for Classic Bronco and F150 springs....but as for your question yes these buckets will work on the TTB and with the BII/Ranger/Explorer springs.

When I removed the buckets on my race truck I found very thin metal in the frame. Thin enough that I punched a hole through with a hammer and punch without trying. The bucket was good tho, so I welded some plate to the bucket and bolted the buckets and plates back on. It's lasted so far.

I wonder if a guy could just run one shock, and if the stock shocks would fit.

That is a concern... and why I want to get it fixed as soon as I can.

EDIT: post number 10,000 :yahoo:

The JD buckets are a bolt in replacement. If you have frame problems fix those first. If it's not too bad I'd hit it with a wire wheel and some POR15 or similar. The JD buckets will house either RBV or EB springs and can be run in a stock application. They allow you to run dual shocks if you choose but a single shock can be mounted if that's what you want. They require eye to eye shocks so you can't reuse your factory ones.

ThatGuy is correct. You can run one or two shocks but you will have to purchase eye-to-eye shocks.

The more I think about it the more I like the Duff buckets, by eliminating the pocket it actually fixes both the problem and the cause. Not sure when I am going to get to it but that is the current plan.

Thanks for the help everyone. :icon_thumby:

What years?

Does anyone know what years will swap? Is it the whole realm from 1983-up? I'm in a situation I need a LF bucket. If I need to go to the junkyard I might as well look for the newest year possible.

thanks,
