I have an 2001 3.0, 4x4. I just pulled my wires off to warrenty them and put the new ones on peer the diagram in the Haynes manual. Well i noticed when i pulled 4-5-6 wires they all came off the right side (passenger) of the coil pack. The haynes maual and in the tech library has the on the left side (driver) of the pack. Specifically 4 closest to the fire wall, then 6 in the middle, and 5 toward the radiator. Then 1-2-3 in oreder of the right side (passanger) of the pack. So I hooked it up like that and it wouldnt even start. I made sure all the plugs were pushed on and tried it again, nothing. So I switched everytheing around on the coil pack so it is, left (driver) side front to rear, 1-2-3; right (passanger) side front to rear 4-6-5; & It runs perfect. Am I being a retard and reading it wrong or is the coil pack mounted backwards?

The front most cylinder is always the #1 cylinder.. On your engine the way you have the wires now is the correct way. I always find it easier on the mind if I take the wires off one at a time and only replace one wire... then I go to the next wire.

I replaced my heads a week ago on my 02 3.0 and did the same thing. The Chilton manual I had was showing backwards to what I needed. I looked closely on the coil pack and the numbers are actually printed on there were they are suppose to be. So between your Haynes and my Chilton I would say yes the book is wrong.

Yeah non of that is news to me I was just checking. I had to take them all off to take them back to the auto partst store to warrenty them. you cant just take them one wire and exhange it or get the new wires then bring them the old set.

Thats what I thought.
