RSH, I'm impressed! I don't have anything to add as far as leaf/coil choices, but I'm very impressed you are going to tackle this.

Seems like leafs is the best option
It still requires a lot of cutting on the frame, and re-boxing it. because even with leafs the cross member sits too low
but compared to set up control arms, and since making the stock XJ parts to work on my truck seems like a pain.

Ill talk about this with my cousin tomorrow.

I almost ditched the SAS idea a few minutes ago, because as always plans dont go as we want em too.
I had plans to make a good contribution to my SAS parts fund, but i couldnt.
But that wont stop me, it might delay me, but wont stop me.

I still need to talk to the parts guy so he either sells me just the axle, or gets me a YJ axle for a bit later.

Shane: the timing is not perfect, because money wont flow in as fast as it flows out, but i guess ive reached the common sense and maturity to know what im dealing with and get it done right.
Besides my cousin might go to the US for a while, so i need to do it before that happens LOL

You could do the single leaf pack thing that gwaii did on his ranger. Its like a big thick leaf pack thats perpendicular to the frame. Crazy flex, pretty simple, and you could probably manage to pull it off without a huge amount of lift.

Just an idea.

the "Dirty White Boy" project is daily driven and handles itself very well. i guess i dont really follow why you need to cut out and box the frame around where the coil's were at. it is most likely much stronger as it sits than cutting them out and rewelding. it seems like a good idea (as i had the same idean on the red squirl project) but involves alot more cutting and welding than it initially appears to and all for what? to make it look just a little bit better F-it. it's all gonna be hidden behind tire anyways. if you look thru my photo albums on FB there are several pics of 4 leaf sprung rigs. a 94 fullsize red chevy. a 85 K-5 on 3/4 tons. the white B2 and the red squirl (under construction) all of them are sporting cuztom junk yard packs. they also flex and ride AMAZINGLY. Anyone who sticks their nose up at leaf springs has their head up their A$$. i have debated on swapin to leafs on SEVERAL ocassions. if my steering werent conflicting i would definately do it. the biggest bennifit to coils is the "cool factory" with the longarm's and not ever having to worry about axle wrap. aside from that they have never really gotten me thru anything that wasnt possiable with leaf's (at least nothing that i could tell). not only that but fine tuning leafs is easy and fun. just by trying different leafs added in and taken away. on coils it involves putting an all together different spring in. which makes it hard to decide on what springs to order.

OH. and by the way there WILL come a point during your swap that you stand back and realize OMG what have I done???? and there will also come a point where you step back and realize OMG this is awsome!!!

Talked to my cousin today.
At first he was a bit negative, but hes liking the idea of hacking my truck and make the SAS lol

We will go with leaf sprung system. For simplicity and strenght.
Actually not strenght, but reliability and toughness, thats good for my roads and such.

He has some chevy silverado packs, that we can use to make my own packs.
Ill collect some pictures of leaf sprung SAS to get ideas, and then we will get under my truck to get the idea of what we have to do.

One of the quick ideas we have is to raise the engine/transmission 2" to gain clearance, that way the axle wont need that much lift. That way we can take advantage of the bodylift. and since we are making new crossmembers, it wont be that hard.

We have plenty time for more ideas, since my SAS fund is moving slow.

If anyone wants to give me more ideas, feel free to do it :icon_thumby:

watch the length on the springs. i think the longest we could fit on the B2 was 52'' anything longer and we would have to add length to the frame. i think the springs we used were like 46 eye to eye. but their are so many measurement's bouncing around in my head i could have them mistaken with the project going on right now. shouldnt need that much arch on the spring to be able to clear 33's. but everysetup is different.

Can i change tails and output shaft on my 2wd m5od from any 4wd m5od to make mine 4wd?
and if so, then i would just need the transfer case or what else?

you need a shorter mainshaft AND the different tailhousing.

you need a shorter mainshaft AND the different tailhousing.

Thats what i meant by tail, the tailhousing, any m5od one will work?
I know the output6shaft is required from a 4wd too, and a shortened drive shaft.

I wonder if the 1 piece aluminum my truck has can be shortened...

sure... find someone that can weld aluminum

Thats good to know, thanks.
Also: any Ranger t-case will work? or are there specific cases for a specific output shaft?

All Ranger t-cases are more or less the same. The front outputs change here and there, and so your front shaft will need to match the transfer case.

Beyond that, transfer case is transfer case. Go for the BW1354, it's stronger. Not that your 2.5 is likely to break a 1350. One of these days here I'll have a 1350E coming available. Not sure what it would cost to ship one of them to Honduras though. Probably more in shipping than it would be to just source one locally.
