Hey all, The BII started running like crap again today and threw the Check Engine light so I went to check the codes but I can't the computer to flash the codes. I followed the procedure from the Tech Library to no avail. Any help on the matter would be great, Just wanna find out what the deal is. Also tried hooking up a snap on scan tool but that has never worked for the truck, Its an 89 with a 2.9. Thanks fellas

I just pulled codes on my 89' last week. All I did was jump the pins with a six inch piece of 12 gauge wire. The haynes book says it's pin two on the larger plug. If the short side of the plug is on the right (distinctivley only one pin on the right side), stick the wire in the first pin on the bottom left of plug. I just used the check engine light, and got 11, the pass code for all tests. There is a you tube video here. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X07hu0kAuzE I also read a helpful article related to the doing the check on mustangs by google searching something like "eec iv codes" or something similar. Should work, if not maybe part of the wire harness is screwed up?

Did you start by doing the key on engine off? If you did the right steps, then A) The jumper isn't making a good contact with the pins. B) Your wiring is screwed up ie. broken, cut or corroded. I don't think your computer can be "broken" so that it doesn't output the codes because it knows enough to turn the check engine light on in the first place. I don't know why a Snappy reader wouldn't read the codes though:icon_confused:

Yeah i'm gonna have to check the wiring on the whole truck again. I have been having problems with it running like crap sometimes, and sometimes all I have to do is shut it down and restart it and it runs fine. And as of recently when I turn the key to the run position before starting the fuel pump runs continuously where as in the past or on my other ranger it runs for a few seconds till primed then shut off till the truck is started so I'm sure I will find a whole can of worms.

Also I looked around by the computer and did find some moisture on the floor there and a few drops above the computer but the plugs seem dry.

Thanks for the Replies Nathan
