My check engine light came on today so I took it to autozone to get the code read but we plugged it in and it said erro could not connect or something like that any thoughts
go HERE and follow the "analog volt meter method" but you don't need the volt meter, just sit in the drivers seat with a note pad and a pen, turn the key on and count the flashes on the check engine light. I've never had good luck with code readers on the older cars.
What you might find is that your cigarette lighter fuse is blown.
The OBDII port shares that power supply.
Look in the cab fuse panel for a 25A fuse blown, position 17.
You may need to pull the radio surround bezel and replace or disconnect the lighter, if it is shorted out, blowing that fuse.
