The heater is actually in the sensor. The O2 sensor has 4 wires. 2 of the wires are for the readings it self, and the other 2 are for the heater in the sensor. The heater is there to get a reading sooner, rather than the computer not reading the sensors before a 10 minute run time. The heater cuts the time to around the 2 minute mark. This way you'll have a better fuel economy and emissions. your best bet is to replace the O2 sensors (all 4 of them). Reason being is if one went, the others aren't far behind.
