I have a 1999 3.0l and I replaced the camshaft position sensor about a year ago. I didn't have a code for it until a few months ago. I checked if it was aligned and it was. I ordered a new one and aligned it correctly, the code came back. But it only throws the code when I hit 60 mph. The cmp does not make a noise just throws the code. I'm at a loss for what to do.

So it goes away on its own? Or you can clear the codes and it doesn't come back until you hit 60mph?

Did you replace just the sensor, or the entire synchronizer AND the sensor?

Lots of bad parts out there that are brand new in the box... could definitely be that

Could be a wiring issue between the ECM and the sensor itself. Easy to do a continuity test there... intermittent short (wire rubbed through or something) will be harder to track down

If you know someone with an oscilloscope then you can use that to test the sensor while the engine is running to see if you are getting a signal from it.

Could be a failing ECM, this is pretty unlikely, but not unheard of.

The code doesn't go away on its own. I clear it and it returns at 60mph.
I replaced the syncro and sensor. It's not an OEM part it's an O'Riley's part.

I cleared the code so I can see if pops up tomorrow. I checked the engine bay fuse panel and I checked the fuses for the hell of it. Fuses 13 and 14 were the incorrect fuses. Both had 25a fuses. I replaced both with their respective fuses, 15a for #13 and 30a for #14.

at 60? in what gear? if you go full throttle, keeping the engine in a lower gear, still at 60?
try turning overdrive off.
does it come on before 60 at the same engine rpm? or wait until 60 at a higher rpm?

Update.
P0340 doesn't pop up anymore, P1309 does. I've noticed after installing the correct fuses my ranger does run better.
I cleared the P1309 then I went around the block. It was about a 10 minute drive and I didn't get over 40mph. The check engine light came on about 6 minutes into the drive. I checked it when I got home and P1309 popped back up.
