have a 94 ford ranger that sat for a couple of years, got running today but it will not move, clutch feels soft. it moved but with a lot of enging rpm, but now put into any gear, will not even think of moving. Any ideas

"it moved but with alot of engine RPM"- would indicate it was slipping badly.

"but now put into any gear, will not even think of moving."-indicates there really isn't anything left of the clutch disc.

Whoa, hold on there.
Try a power bleed, push mode. The mushy makes me think that air has gotten into the system. Bubble at the end will fake that plate issue pcollins notes. Plus you want to do that anyway, as if air got in, so did water, and the fluid is hygroscopic (absorbs water). This results in corroded parts, which can also give that plate issue.
Good luck.

What a wonderful misunderstanding of how a hydraulic clutch engages.

Collins is right, the title to your thread answered your question.

Librum is partially correct though. The soft pedal does indicate issues in the hydraulic system, but hydraulic issues will not make the clutch slip. From the sounds of your post any surface rust on the plates (more likely caused by exposure and non-use than any fluid leak) should have been rubbed off by your attempts to move the truck by now.

It's time for a clutch man. Get a new slave while you are in there.
