My son has a 1994 Ranger - 4 cyl. w/manual transmission. While stopped at an intersection, he went to shift into 1st gear and release the clutch- nothing. It shifts easily into all gears but will not engage. It has a hydraulic clutch but the res. is still full. There is no grinding or hard shifting. As he lives many miles away so I am unable to help him much. Could this be a linkage problem? Does this yr. truck have external/internal linkage? What are the other possible causes? Thanks for any ideas.

there is no linkage on these, there is a push-rod between the pedal and the master cylinder then a hydraulic line from there to the slave cylinder which sits directly under the throwout bearing. The shifter has no linkage either, the shifter sticks right down into the shift rails, it seems unlikely that all gears would fail simultaneously though. Without more info, your guess is as good as mine. Sorry and good luck.
