I have a 2003 Ranger Edge 2wd 5spd. Last week I had a problem leaving work. The clutch was ok for about 10 shifts and then got closer and closer to the floor and finaly no disengagement. I got it home and checked the fluid and it was ok. I did find some weird gray matter that seamed to be solid but then would disolve when rubbed between your fingers. (Made me think of "silicone" sort of) Any way the clutch stated working again and I drove for another week with no problem. I started off for work this morning and the pedal went to the floor. I tried to pump it up but nothing. I removed the master cylinder tonight and bench tested it. When I pressed in the rod I had no resistance and no fluid comming out the end of the line. There was a black "check valve looking thing" in the end of the line that plugs into the transmission. I held it in a little and pressed on the rod and fluid came out the end. My thought is if this check valve holds the fluid back when removed from the tranny then if the master cylinder was good it would be impossible to push in and therefore the slave would be shot. But my master pushes just as easy with the line in as it does with the line out. Therefore it must be the master. Or is this just wishfull thinking. I appreciate any help or guidence.
