clutch problems

need some help here.. i have a 98 ranger with a 5 speed , having problems getting it into 1st gear and when i do it shifts hard threw all the gears.. i was stuck at work tonight for 20 min trying to get into first gear then it was ok all the way home just harder to shift.... clutch does not slip at all.. and ideas slave cylinder? it has been really cold here.. but i have never had this problem.. truck has 135,000 on it.. i think the slave in the trans was changed at about 80,000.. any help would be great

sounds like one of your hydraulic parts is leaking... have you tried to pump it real fast then try puttin it in gear... or put it in first before you start it... or the worst case would be pressure plate is loosing it clamping load

Use the search. I just answered a very very similar question about an hour ago.

Sounds to me like your clutch isn't releasing fully. Most likely a hydraulic issue.

Ebay! I just looked them up yesterday cause I REALLY cant stand the feel of the Duracrap I put in there 3yrs ago. They have one with ceramic plates I was interested in fairly priced

The Clutch not releasing is not a "clutch problem", but rather a "clutch actuation problem"

There's a saying in medicine:
"When you hear hoofbeats think horses, not zebras

In this case the two "horses" are the master and slave cylinders
The "Zebra" is a bad PILOT bearing (not to be confused with the release bearing)

I got my Luk clutch and slave for $180

Luk builds the OEM clutch for Ford.

I bought that exact same clutch from gripforce for my 99 ranger about 4 months ago and installed it no problem. The clutch that came was SECO, a name brand out of Korea. Everything went smoothly and it continues to be problem free. It was hundreds cheaper than anything else I could get here in Canada.
