Clutch problem

My 92 ranger Stx 4.0 v6 clutch is having issues. I just bought the truck about 2 weeks ago so I'm just trying to work out all the problems. One thing it is doing, is the clutch will sometimes lock me out of 1st gear. And reverse also sometimes. It will usually work just fine for the first 5 mins of driving. But then when I pull up to a light in neutral and go to shift into first its really hard to get in. I usually can get it in if I shift like real fast or if the truck is off. I have checked the clutch fluid. That's fine. Although a little dark. I have heard that it might be the transmission fluid. Has anyone else had this problem, if so, what was the solution. And how should I troubleshoot it. Thanks.

Sounds as if the master and or slave are bad. You can change the master its a PIA but it is accessible over the fender. Slave requires pulling trans. If you do pull it go ahead and change the clutch out at the same time.

Yeah def. I'm hoping it doesn't come to that. But if it does...so be it. I'm going to check the trans fluid today and make sure it's at the right height. This guy told me that his was doing the same thing. Where it would only work for the first couple miles and then it would my let him into 1st. In his case it was low trans fluid.
