Here's the story:

I was on my way home from work yesterday and I let the clutch out and I hear a small pop and the brake and clutch assembly was loose. Loose as in when I grabbed the brake pedal I could shift it left and right by about five inches each direction. So a bolt backed out and came loose. No problem. I get a bolt and find where it backed out and threaded it back in. The pedal assembly is nice and tight again, brake works fine.

On the other hand, the clutch pedal has about an inch or two of slop in it now. Slop meaning when I push it in, it pretty much free falls for two inches until it then starts pushing the pushrod on the master cylinder. So the pedal hits the floor before the clutch is fully disengaged, so I can't shift. A cool older guy noticed me working on it in a parking lot came over and looked at it and said it looks like the "keeper" on the pushrod that connects to the clutch pedal break/came loose. I have no idea what he's talking about. But he came out with this little circular plastic piece, about an 3/4" in diameter that had a slit on the side so you can put it over a rod of some sort.

One of my friends came over and looked at it. It looks like that little plastic piece fits on the pushrod where it connects to the master cylinder at the firewall...but I broke the damn piece yesterday so I'm gonna go find another one.

I was hoping someone had a similar issue with this and can give some advice. Thanks!!

Well, I have come to the conclusion that something got jacked up where the pushrod meets the master cylinder. When you push the clutch, it pushes the rod just fine and it starts to disengage the clutch about an inch from the floor, but then you hit the floor so it won't disengage completely. So I'm going to tear the inner fender liner out this weekend and see what's going on up inside there. I'm guessing the pushrod got out of line with the master cylinder?? I don't know.

The plastic clip just holds the rod to the pedal...it doesnt determine how much play it has..

Im going to guess that your clutch needs to be bled..or maybe a bolt on the master cylinder backed out from the firewall..

Yeah I just went out and messed with it..no clutch at all. I'll bleed it this weekend. Thanks BlackBII.
