I have a 1986 4X4 with a 2.9 and 5 speed. I noticed that my clutch and brake pedals flop around like a dead fish (before it gets stiff). I played around with it for about three days before I got it all back together and I think it's right. The clutch pedal looks like it has a pivot shaft that goes into a bracket, through the brake pedal, then through a sleeve, then back through the other side of the bracket. The shaft has a notch for an E-clip (I think) to keep it from coming out. The E-clip is missing. Can any one tell me what size the clip is and if it's NOT an E-clip can some one clue me in? Thanks everyone.

There is a clip at the end of the pedal shaft.
ID is at least 1/2" but I'd have to go find one
to be exact.

One thing that also may be causing the play is the
plastic bushings that fit on each end and inside
the pedal contact areas. I think that there are
4 of those bushings.

Good luck, depending on clutch interlock those are
a PITA to work on.

Got the assy for a 2000 right here, shaft is 1/2" x appox .05-.06" thick and is a "E" clip. Frye82 is right on checking the (4) plastic bushing, mine were all cracked. Lot of people have them gone and then the metal housing gets worn away.

Great. The bushings are still intact, just the pedal shaft was not all of the way in the bracket. Thanks for the help, now I can drive with the full use of the clutch.

ya im messing with an 96 f250 that the bushings wore out and its not setting off the interlock...
