I have a 98 Ranger, 2.5* two wheel drive. I went to town and it was fine. As I was leaving town, the clutch pedal started sticking. Then I couldn't push the clutch in. Had to have it towed home. Anyone have ideas? I was told it was the slave cylinder, but that is spongy not stiff.

Welcome to TRS :)

There is a Quick Connect connector for the hydraulic hose at the slave near the bellhousing.

It may have come loose, that closes off the hose to master so you can't push pedal down

Ron's suggestion is the most likely.

After that check the pedal itself. I dealt with one for my neighbor, same year, where the clutch pedal was sticking in all sorts of odd spots. Sometimes it wouldn't go down, sometimes it wouldn't come up, sometimes it made the brake lights come on.

It was rust built up in the tube the clutch pedal rides in.
