Okay I couldn't find an answer so sorry if this is a repeat thread. I have a 97 ranger with a 5 speed transmission. It has problems going into 1rst and Reverse from neutral at a complete stop. There's no grinding and I just bled the slave cylinder. It's just difficult to get in gear, if im rolling it slides in easy, but yea i have to give quite a bit of force to put it into 1 or R from complete stop and then its fine. Anybody have an idea what it could be? I'm not the best mechanic so im wondering if I should bring it in but I hate the idea of that. Thanks

Sounds like the slave cylinder is going. Just had th same problem with mine. Should say I lived with it for quite some time and finally replaced the clutch, pressure plate, disk, slave cylinder. Go to this link and give it a try. You may not have vacated all the air. I used this technique and it worked fantastic. Wished I had known about this way of doing it 10-12 years ago!http://www.therangerstation.com/forums/showthread.php?t=109088
