As part of my v8 swap I took the cluster with tach(from 98 expo 5.0) truck originally was 99 2.5 5spd, (no tach) the tach seems to be off bad, how do I fix this?

Only Pin 16 of the 16-pin grounded ==> V8
Only Pin 8 of the 10-pin grounded ==> V6
Neither grounded ==> 4cyl

So your 2.5l wiring would not have either 16 or 8 grounded most likely
So you would need to add a ground to pin 16

But since it was a No Tach cluster it may have pin 8 grounded and you can just move that over to pin 16
But in any case make sure pin 8 is not grounded and pin 16 is, for V8 tach

I think there were other wires that were different on explorer cluster, the status/warning lights, so posted Ranger wiring below, I don't have explorer wiring

Thanks @RonD ill give it a try in a few minutes after I eat lunch. I was originally told to move 8 on 10 pin to 1 on 16 pin that did not work

Thats odd, C214(16 pin) 1 is OD light on/off, Transmission control, if you have an automatic I would hook that back up, the original wire that was there, but grounding that pin should have turned ON the OD off light

Most status/warning lights get 12volts with key on, and are grounded to activate that bulb

So maybe explorer cluster is different for that pin

Expo was auto, using a t5 in my swap tho.
I tried pin 8 from 10pin in pos. 1 and 16 of 16 pin, no changes what so ever. Broke a test light which can indicate +/- pin 8 wire (black/yellow) is not a ground

The pins are for Ranger clusters, so not sure how they apply to Explorer clusters

Ok then ill put stock cluster back in for now. I have a glo-shift tach from another project where should I pull tach signal from for it?

Tan/yellow wire on pin 15 of the 16 pin connector has the tach signal, you can leave it connected and just splice to it

Not sure what model of glo-shift tach but most use a Green wire for tach signal IN, so that would hook to the tan/yellow Ranger wire

Rest are 12v power and lights, and then a ground

A 1996 to 2003 Ranger cluster with tach would be plug and play, with correct ground for V8 tach of course, lol

Thanks Ron, im looking for a cluster now.
