Can you swap out a non tach equipped cluster on a 2000 Ranger for one with a tach, without reprogramming the computer etc.? I tried to search this but couldnt fine the answer. Will the tach plug be there on my harness?

The best way I can answer this is for you to look at your Instrument Cluster connectors.

The tach signal wires are BK/YE and TN/YE on two different connectors.

You'll find the TN/YE in the largest of the three connectors (16 pins C214) in the #15 spot. (when viewing the connector, with the Tab on top, next to the last on the left- both pins on either side of it are not used). This is tach input. It comes from Pin 48 of the PCM. If that is present, you are golden.

The second wire you need to find is easier. Smallest connector, C216 has ten pins. You are looking for Pin 8 to have BK/YE wire in it. It goes straight to ground, so you could easily add that. Good luck.

What about reacting with the computer? What happens to the mileage?

on the older ones you just swap out the speedo's, I think it's a little harder to do on the newer ones, but you just keep the speedo...
