Hey all, Angie's other half here, she has asked a few questions and recieved some usefull info from people here so I figured I will ask away and tell a strange story or two while I am at it.
Rangers are great little trucks!!! Have a 91 that I drove off the lot, (she was asking many questions in here about that one when it died) that ol' gal holds 420K Kms and sits now. Was planning on getting her back in shape till we found a great deal....
92 for $400 only small hick-up was the passenger shock tower was rusted out and drove bad. Bought the truck from a guy who had it listed as parts only truck. After a better inspection we knew this baby was in great shape compared to the 91 (no major rust and fully loaded XLT to boot) the 4.liter V6 is strong. Went to the local Pick-A-Part (wrecking yard were you walk in with your tools and if you see what you need you pull them apart yourself) pulled a set of shock towers off a 92 Explorer and a new set of shocks. After a small bit of modifications slapped the new tower in and poof she drives like a dream.
Angie and I found her a 91 4X4 2.9 Liter for $600 and that truck is a gem!! 3 rangers in the corral, so we have a bit of knowledge. took a bowtie gal and turned her into an oval sweetie
LOL
back to what I did today.... the gauges on the 92 ranger the altmeter was dead showing no life in it. (this is the set of gauges with the alt on top and the water temp below) ... Back to Pick-A-Part took out a set of gauges from a (94) Explorer thinking that these are the exact same pieces, in looks and shape and all... they are the same. While I was at it I also took out the tach and the fuel/oil pressure sets. (they had a nice blue instead of the yellow) cosmetic I know ...
Now the alt gauge works when i start the truck, as does the tach and the rest of the gauges. the problem that I have noticed is that now the truck seems to want to pause when she is shifted from park to Reverse, and the alt needle swings, and swings again if head lights get turned on (which is an improvement from not working at all) I was curios about the tach that I replaced (hence wanting a new one) for when the truck was on the open highway I was questioning the readings of 2100 RPM @ 110 KMH. For my 91 would purr along at 16-1700 RPM @ 110 KMH. The new Tach was showing the revs around 1800-1900 @ 110 KMH.
both trucks run a 4liter V6. would placing an explorer set of guages make any difference in readings and or performance? reason I didn't grab any from 91-92 truck is because someone had beat me to the sets.....
thanks for reading this long winded story.
