My '95 Ranger 4.0, 4R55E trans has started clunky downshifts when I pull up to a stop light. It only occurs after I have driven awhile and everything's good and warm. Any thoughts(PS - 175 thousand on the odometer)

I don't believe this is in the trans. My 99 done the same thing, I recently dropped a 302 into it and it continues to do this. What I came up with is there's a chunk welded inside the driveshaft that has came loose.

That I know balancing weights are welded to the outside. This is about a 3 inch chunk that fills the inside of the shaft. I'm not sure of its purpose but my shaft has no vibration or anything relating to it being a weight.

Clunking . . .

I could be wrong, but my 'clunking' seems to be inside the transmission; I can feel it in the seat of my pants. It's a hard downshift, if that makes any sense.:dunno:
