Clunking noise

Got a 99 4x4 4.0 5 speed manual ranger. It's clunking when I go from a stop, and sometimes when I'm going down the road if I tap the gas while it's in gear I can get it to clunk. I've heard it while it's in neutral and I'm rolling down a hill or something like that. Greased the slip yoke with ford ptfe lubricant. I cleaned the splines pretty good then just doused it in grease so I think i did it right. U joints are tight no play in them. I can move my tranny mount up and down more than I think I should be able to would this be the cause?

Btw it doesn't do it every time, it's kinda random but it happens at least once every time I drive it. It's been getting worse, it used to just only do it when I took off from a stop.

I can feel it and hear it in the middle of my truck, though it's hard to pinpoint. Could even possibly be up front, I've got new ball joints upper and lower, new stabilizer bar end links, timken hub assemblies, tie rods seem pretty good, they have a little play in them. Got new shocks too, I don't think it's them it seems more drivetrain related.

Just now when I was driving it was doing it like crazy whenever id brake, let off the gas, put on the gas a little. It's so erratic and weird. And I opened my door and it sounds middle of the truck ish, could motor mounts also be a cause?

Yes a bad transmission or engine mount or combination could cause a clunk. If your pretty sure Ujoints are good I would start there.

Okay, I can feel it in the seat too, a good thud. One thing after the other with this truck recently. I'll replaced the tranny mount and let ya know if that fixed her or not

I had bad motor mounts. They had a lot of play and The rubber was rotting and collapsing

Okay, yeah just now when I was driving on the freeway every time id let of the gas and put it back on it would clink, so it's a torque related thing where torque is applied and keeps it down then when the torques off it's allowed to flop around. And when I got off the highway it was clinking so bad in neutral "clink clink clink clink clink" and then when is throw it in gear it would stop it. Thinking it's the mounts.

Well I replaced the tranny mount still made the noise. Then I took the rear driveshaft off and put it in 4wd and it still clunked. So it's not in the rear driveline. Took off the front driveshaft still made the noise. Gotta go work so I can't continue in my search, is there anyway a transmission could make that noise? I mean the clutch and tranny both work just fine other than I hear that noise and feel the clunk. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!

motor mounts could be bad and motor could be shifting..

An engine torqueing in it's mounts usually moves the exhaust system around quite a bit and will cause rattles, tinny noises, clunks and thumps too. More than likely you have more than one source causing noises on your truck. (that's how trucks are)
Aging rubber parts don't help either.

Just for the heck of it,have you checked the radius arm bushings?
