I had my rf upper ball joint replaced when I was getting my bfg on at my uncles shop. I think it was like $130~150. I don't know how much the part would cost... call your local shop or dealer.
Check the easy stuff first : raise the front suspension and check the joints (ball joint, tie rod ends, etc.) and bearings. Cheap to do, and free. And then you eliminate the guess work.
The 'clunk' in our Ranger's front end was the LF wheel bearings. I've got the Warn manual lockout hubs and the bearing nut(s) backed off, allowing the bearing to get excessive play. I replaced bearings / rotors (both sides) as they were all very high mileage items, anyway. Easy job.
Check the tech section on the main page. There should be an exploded view of the front suspension somewhere. Also, check out the instruction for replacing the auto hubs with manual hubs. This should give good instruction on taking the front apart (and you don't have to do the swap).
and yes, a bad balljoint can cause significant camber issues. Take my LF tire for example, the upper balljoint on that corner is bad, and is causing the tire to lean inwards quite a bit. The resultant tire wear is easily noticeable, the inside tread wears about 6 times faster than the rest of the tire.
