Symptoms: A/C will cycle on and off and provide "cool" air, not cold at all.
After a while it will go hot (maybe slightly above outside temp)

Seems like it is building up pressure and then the High Pressure cut-off is keeping it off.

No Ranger expert, so need some pointers to finding that tube and seeing how bad it is.
(Hoping it is not black and sticky)

Is the best place to go for this YouTube or are there some high level HOW TOs here at TRS?

Another VW guy... welcome to TRS.

I've done a bunch of AC work... You have to put gauges on the system to see whats going on. Does the system cycle on and off consistently? If so... it probably needs a recharge. But if it needs a recharge... it has a leak.

+1 ^^^

Also to check the orifice tube, or change it, you have to evacuate the system, so best to plan on finding if it Leaks FIRST, then change the receiver/drier as well because it was exposed to air
Orifice tube is inside the connection to evaporator

Does Automotive A/C use the same fittings for the gauges as residential A/C?

R134a has unique fittings.
