I replaced the front brakes on my 2000 XLT this past weekend. They made a screeching noise as most new brakes do for a couple days. Anyway, after 4 days it was till doing it as bad as ever!
After inspecting the pads, calipers, etc...I found this clip on the inside of the calipers that was scraping the rotors. It appears that this is to rest on top of the sides of the pads to keep the calipers from slipping down on top of the rotors. I had no choice but to remove these as I had no understanding of their purpose. The calipers and all were reinstalled and the noise is gone. The brakes work fine.
Can anyone tell me if this is something that I should worry about?!?
Thanks,
Robert
