Clicking when trying to jumpstart?

I have a 1983 ranger with a 2.3l manual that won't start, even when jumping it. Originally it would try to crank over but now it only clicks. I've replaced the fuel pump and starter solenoid (solenoid was sparking) and still no luck...

I'm not the greatest with cars so I'm not exactly sure where to go from here, anyone have some advice?

It is possible for the battery to be dead enough to not take a jump. It's also possible that your connection is no good. Clean off some metal on the engine somewhere, use the battery + for the hot wire.

Try charging the battery that is in it on a real charger instead of trying to jump it too, that is really the right way to do this.

Thanks, I'll give that a try in the morning.

Battery was shot, got a new one and now it cranks but won't start. Have a friend that's pretty knowledgeable about this stuff that's gonna take a look at it this weekend, thanks again for your help!
