Clicking when fan is on

Hey guys! I'm pretty ignorant when it comes to working on vehicles, so I'm hoping that someone here can help me.

This evening when I started my truck I heard a clicking/squealing sound coming from the passenger side. Whenever I would turn off the fan the sound would stop. It was hard to isolate where the sound was coming from, but it was pretty loud near the floor, but not very loud when I checked under the hood near the blower motor. That may have just been because the engine noise was so loud.

Do you think it's just my blower motor going out?

It's an '02.

sounds like a leaf or a peice of paper fell through the vent. pull the blower motor out and clean the cowl out.

if theres nothing in there, the motor is probably on its way out.

also check for any little critters that may have made there way in there......mine had a dead mouse sittin in the mittle of the blower LOL

my old sunfire made the same noise as the op's but when I pulled the blower out I found 2 paper clips and a penny in the squirrel cage!?!? guess someone was mad at me or somethin.

I didn't have a chance to do anything with it before work, so while I was on my way I messed with the fan settings. I had messed with it before without success, but this time when I set it to floor the sound stopped. Whatever it was must have gotten dislodged. I'm glad I didn't have to go through all of that work to fix it.

Well, it's really not that much work to pull a blower motor. I can have mine out in under 5 minutes...

I'd do it anyway, as there is likely quite a bit of loose stuff in there, even if it isn't inside the blower.

mikes precaution reminds me....i have heard of fires being started by leaves and other junk getting up next to the blower motor resistor (which sticks into the cowl for cooling). i think this was more of a problem in gen 1 & 2 trucks since they had those big ol' cowl openings...but i still wouldnt want to risk it.
