Hey guys my air conditioning just started making a clicking noise. It's not too loud but if you're like me and you want everything running smooth and true, it becomes extremely bothersome.

It's more of a faint noise whenever I turn the a/c on. If I keep my music loud i won't hear it, but when i flip the radio off i notice the noise. It is a continuous click and it does not stop unless i turn the ac off. The sound appears to be coming from the center vents, but i could be wrong.

I've searched the forums but have yet to find an answer, there may be one, so if any of you have a link to solve my problem it would be much appreciated. Or, w/e if you want you could just answer my question here if it's a simple fix.

I own a 2006 and it's practically brand new, clean and smooth, so this is a shocker to hear random clicking noises on such a solid truck.

Thanks for any help you guys can give me. :icon_thumby:

Pine needle stuck in the fan?

Compressor clutch engaging / disengaging?

Describe the sound better.

it almost sounds like an old computer running, I don't know is that better? I'll make a sound clip tomorrow, but i know it's not the compressor clutch engaging cuz i hear that noise separately.

I've got the same thing in my '02 Ranger in sig below. Mine starts clicking when I turn the heat or A/C on and sounds like it's under the glove box. Not a loud clicking, but sounds like the fan blades are hitting something. It just started a few weeks ago. Also looking for suggestions...

It also happens when i turn the fan on so i've narrowed it down to it being something with the fan.

It makes the noise whenever anything is on and it's annoying.

Again it sounds like an old compute's fan running as if the blades are being buffeted similar to what coolbrze said.

Simply remove the blower motor and clean out the debris.

I have to do this every year or so, I park around pines.

Once you get the majority of the debris out with your hand, take a garden hose and douche that plenum out until you get all the crap out.

You will probably have to loosen and reposition the cruise control servo (one bolt) and the coolant/washer reservoirs to get the blower to come out. That's not hard either. I don't THINK you have to remove the air filter housing to get the reservoirs out. They only need to move a little anyway to make enough clearance for the fan.

and that fan is the one that is on whether the ac is on or not, because it happens whenever any fan is on.

I don't know why all of a sudden it started though, it's weird, one day it's fine, the next morning it's making a small buzzing sound.

I'll try this the second i have some free time.
