Clicking from engine

I did an oil change on saturday and went wheeling a bit on sunday, got pretty dirty. Monday i go for a drive and notice a clicking noise from the engine, sounded kinda like it was the belt so i sprayed wd-40 on it and it did nothing. Thought maybe it was dirt so i washed the truck and hose the engine bay down and nothing.

Kept driving and after 30min on the highway it went away. Parked it for a few hours and on the way home it started again for about 30 min or so.

Tried checking at home and it seems to do it mostly around 2000-3000 rpm.

Haven't had time to check maybe a loose pulley.

Anybody got any ideas? Just hoping its not lifters or anything expensive. Just payed my tuition for my next round of school and money is pretty tight.

Ill check that but it doesnt quite sound like arcing. I forgot to mention it squeals a bit too.

Does it do it on cold startup? If it does, when dead cold, pull the belt and see it you have the click/squeal. If no click it is outside the engine. Don't let it run for longer than 3 or 4 minutes without the belt.

If you got it all muddy/dirty/wet under there, you have a whole list of maybes.

Dont got time again tonight to check it out but i have tomorrow off so ill try out the suggestions.

Check your tube/hoses coming from your EGR. I've had them blow off during WOT on the freeway before. Loud clicking went away after reconnecting the tube/hose.

Took off belt and it went away. Sprayed a little wd on the tensioner pulley, put belt on and the clicking is gone.

I gotta stop thinking worst case scenario andytime something goes wrong on the truck lol
