Have a question for any Ford or Mazda tech.
I have a 1994 b4000 with a 4L ovhv,it has a tick on the pass side bank.
Sounds like a collapsed lifter,are there any other things that are common problems that I should look for. ie worn push rod ,bad rocker arm etc.
I see in the manual you have to take the heads off to replace the lifters,Sony want to over look something Easter to fix.

Pushrods and rockers wear badly in the 4.0. I'll post some pics of what was left of mine if you would like. I just put new stuff in and haven't started it yet. Tick in the Ford OHV V6 isn't an uncommon problem... Most of the guys here just turn up the radio.

So ur sayin hold off on replacing the lifers till I check the push rods and rockers?
If that's the case let me know how your repair goes,that would be great don't have to take heads off.
Another thing about the noise it goes away at about 2000 rpm. Sounds like an easy enough fix,I have to replace valve cover gasket on that side anyway.

Check to see if that engine uses "HLA'S" (Hydro-Lash-Adapters) The wife's Probe GT had an L4 (turbo...Weeeeeeeeeeeeee). The HLA's always clicked like wild.

Then we changed the oil and I swore off Fram's lousy filters for life. I replaced it with a Napa Gold (made by WIX) and gave it some good quality oil. (Castr GTX) The engine shut up and purred like a kitten with a bowl of Milk at feeding time.
