These are my 1998 ranger xlt rims 14 inch i belive they are alloy? But around the lip of the rim in some spots theres like white powder and a film of like clear flakey crap covering it but anyway i ripped some of the clear flaky crap off and it was just white powder and it looks like crap i blew the dusty powder off and its just white and rough in that area what can i use to make my rims shine up and get the crap off.. Im talking something household i dont want to spend anymore money there has to be something.:icon_confused:

The clear flaky crap is probably the clear coat paint that the rims have. your white powder is probably some aluminum oxide. my rims on my 97 are doing the same thing. the only way to fix it properly is to take them and have them refinished.

you might be able to sand the rough areas to get them to look like the brushed aluminum and then clean them real good and shoot some rattle can clear coat on them. probably will not last tho.
