Have a 99 4.0L Supercab 8.8 (i think limited slip can't remember)with 110,000 miles...time to change the differential fluid. My big question is after I take the cover off can I use brake cleaner or something to clean the spider gears? With my luck i just don't want to screw anything up.

Thanks

It shouldn't be necessary to "clean" the spider gears, changing the fluid is all that's required. :icon_thumby:

I agree. no need to clean the spider gears but you might want to wipe out the bottom of the case to remove any acumulated sludge that might have formed there.

I usually give the housing a good spray out with some brake clean and then some air to dry it before sealing it back up and refilling it.

just take the cover off and let the fluid drain. Wipe away any standing fluid on the bottom on the case and put the cover back on with a new seal. Fill it up and go

Spray away. Won't hurt anything.
