Just about ready to fire up this bad boy, but the gas left in the tank 2 maybe 3 years old or more . Pretty rank stuff, looks like ice tea. What is the best way to get this stuff out of the tank and lines outside of removeing the tank?

Thanks in advance John

There's really only two ways. Remove the tank or siphon it out and you don't want to drop the tank so....There's siphon kits out there if you're afraid to swallow old gas. As for the lines, break the line where your filter is and watch it drip. Thats about all i can come up with.

And make sure you run injector clear in the tank afterwards to get rid of any deposits.

Well, I unhooked the fuel line before the filter, and hooked power to the fuel pump on the frame rail. Got about 3 gal. of that nasty, foul smelling stuff out. I think I'm going to run a few gal. of clean through and see if its any better.

When i drained the fuel out of my '94 i unhooked the fuel line at the filter and placed it in a old jug, then on the underhood fuse panel, find the relay for the fuel pump. Bridge with a jumper so its "hot", turn key and pump should run and pump out old fuel 'till you turn the key off.

EDIT: well by the time i got back to the computer and replied you already did it haha. But yeah id probably run some seafoam or something similar through there to clean it all out good

get a couple of good filters and change them regular for the first few tanks and adding about 4 ounces of acetone to the tank before fillups with dissolve any varnish that is in the fuel system. Check it regular for a while if you keep getting the rust color you may need to get a new one but it should clear out after a bit. If you are running a carb you should be fine FI could be a problem tho.

Ok, put 4 gal of gas with fi cleaner mixed in. Figgered out why no power to fuel pump, wire unpluged . Wire is energized about 1 sec.in run engen off , butt stays on continously while chanking.. still have a squeek while cranking to check into.

Got it running fairly well, got rid of the squeeks and rattles. Now I thought I was working on the smaller issues, like the fuel gage not working. Tracked that down to the in tank sending unit. Today new sending unit in hand($106.oo) pulled the bed off, and removed the old sending unit, and yuck looked like asfalt coatting the inside of the tank. The sending unit float was missing, both wire on the fuel pump were off,and most of the screen was on the bottom of the tank. What is good to clean that out with? Where do you get the gromet that holds the vent to the tank?

John

After another trip the parts store($65.00 for fuel pump for tank), and a trip to Doller store,(strong detergent $5.00), got the tank pretty clean, got a 5 pound coffee can off settlemens/ rust out. Anyway, after putting the gas tank back togather and in, and before putting the bed on, I tryed to start it. No, would knot start! Check for gas, no fuel presure, turned out to be a bad bad relay socket ($12.00).
