Cleaning Fuel Injectors!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I had a similar problem with my 2.9---had good fuel pressure to the injectors, engine spit & sputtered but wouldn't start---got a mechanic's stethescope & couldn't hear injectors "clicking" when cranking engine---injector electrical connector had no voltage fluctuation when cranking engine---cleaned corroded wiring pins---got good reading on voltmeter---engine started & runs great! ( some brands of gasoline WILL leave a syrupy build-up in the injectors after sitting up for a while---I cleaned mine-3 were stopped up)

injectors

yea firday night test injectors and 1 and 2 were working and 3-6 were not so we are gonna take them out and soak them incleaner and replace the filters and o rings in them,

I don't know if you're supposed to COMPLETELY submerge the injectors in fluid--maybe they'll short out if the fluid seeps into the electric stuff inside? I took mine off the engine-got a spray can of injector cleaner-rigged up a fitting to attach the red squirt tube to the inlet side if the injector--hooked a battery to the injector connector with a remote start switch--blasted the injector with spray cleaner and open/closed the injector rapidly with the remote start swich into a clean glass jar and watched all the junk squirt out the injector--had to "back-wash" two injectors--the trash in them was so big, it wouldn't squirt thru the little hole. cost= $3 for a can of spray cleaner .... experience cleaning & testing(tech library) my injectors= priceless

Hey all, I had starting having power problems in my 2.9L and had changed out all the normal items, then finally I got down to Injectors, bought 6 Accel normal poundage injectors, and WOW, power was back! I have 197,000 miles on my 88. So sometimes replacing injectors is a good thing. The spray pattern must be way better than the worn out original Ford ones.

I understand. I just have a hard time thinking it can be anything other than an injector. I mean I put Fuel injector cleaner in my truck, and now I have one specific cylinder that is giving me a misfire. I do have a spare coilpack I think so I can toss that in there. I cant imagine it is a issue with the PCM.

I think my plan of attack will be to swap the coilpack, replace the fuel filter. if the problem persists, I will order a new injector and replace that. Clean the old one, and keep it as a spare.

Honestly, that $40 would be better spent on 30 minutes of professional diagnosis. You're shooting in the dark, and you MIGHT get lucky. Just not with odds I'd get anywhere near.

You have SEFI. Problems with the injector cannot be separated from problems with the wiring. And I don't think you have established that you're getting SPARK. That spark could be surface-tracking along the outside of the spark plug, for instance, due to moisture condensation. I'm not saying that IS the case; it's just another completely different mechanism for a cold-engine miss.

It could also be something like lower compression in that cylinder making it just that much harder to fire cold. Or maybe the gap in that spark plug is a bit off. And so on.

And there are a bunch more.

I'd agree with MAKG on this one, check every possible problem before you throw parts at the problem. It could be a possibility that the fuel injector cleaner may have fouled a couple of your plugs or that the coil pack may have started acting up due to a crack in the casing that happened to coincide with you adding injector cleaner, or one of your plug wires could be worn through, corroded, or melted. or the connector at the injector could be corroded and just needs to be cleaned.
