I was just wondering what would be causing a Clacking noise in nuetral and 5th gear. with the clutch ingaged it goes away but when out in clacks. seems to only happen in 5th and nuetral. it is an 89 B2 5speed I believe it is a mitsu (12 oil pan bolts):dunno:

it sounds like a throw out bearing to me cuz my friend had the same problem and that's what fixed his

The FM145 in my Bronco 2 did that just before the transmission locked up. I had just bought it, and while test driving it, it made a loud metal crunching noise shortly after I put it in 5th. After stopping, the transmission was locked up in every gear. Stay out of 5th gear until you can get it fixed!!!

Everybody told me it was a throwout (release) bearing too. If it was a throwout bearing, wouldn't it do it in every gear?

Thanks Rusty, that helps quite a bit. I guess it needs an overhaul. probably about time anyway.
