My credo
If you can't go through it or around it, then go over it.
2 weeks ago I dropped the POS minivan off at the Chrysler collision center to get new strut towers. I got a call today to come in...... I was thinking it was done. The cancer had spread so far that they said it cannot be repaired..... or atleast they won't do it because of some liability concerns...... I don't blame them...... why Chrysler is crap is because these POS minivans sold in the upper 30's and they never recalled them for the strut tower issue..... Atleast Toyota recalled the rust prone trucks .......

so now I need a new car....... again..........

It also doesn't help you live in salt capital of the world. Michigan uses a bizillion tons of salt a year.

I do hear you though. It seems like every manufacture went through a period where one or two models had rust problems.

Chrysler is crap

The rest of the world has known this for some time now. Even my grandpa who was a die-hard Chrysler guy for most of his life has turned, sadly to the dark side, and bought a 'yota van.

Jurgen Schremp, Daimler CEO even admitted back in the early part of the last decade that he never intended to keep Chrysler corp profitable or even alive too long after the DaimlerChrysler merger.

my wife is from there and just driving through there i was shocked and disgusted at all the vehicles just rusting out from under the driver. I bought my truck in nevada and thats where it has lived it's whole life. I don't want my truck to end up like that when my wife goes back when i go to korea. so it isn't just chrysler it is everything.

I am kind of surprised that you still have that thing. I am still driving mine at work too, unfortunately. I have kind of gotten used to it and it's still way more comfortable than any of the other vans I have driven so I guess it's not all bad.

I have a line on a rust free '98 Grand Caravan with a bad transmission and a locked up engine....... its AWD like mine. They guy bought it for his daughter and she let her BF drive it and destroy it....... I would need to swap my engine, trans, tranfercase, rear axle (because for some reason the town and countrys are geared different), my interior, and my doors/glass........... $300 for the shell...... he said he went to texas to get it and the first thing he did was seal up the strut towers..... but this may just be another project I never get around to doing.

This is not your ordinary rust belt issue..... the problem mine has only effects the 97-2000 models because of a design flaw in the strut towers..... they should have been recalled........

I still have it because every time I have tried to replace it we had a financial difficulty..... i was going to get it fixed again because i could not replace it for what the collision center quoted me to replace the towers.

what i kick myself for is not keeping the Land Cruiser ...... rusted out POS that it was .... it never failed to start and it was easy to work on ..... and my wife could drive that until she graduates and enters the Army ..... and then we could get a new car ...... with a warranty ......

now i have to get off my ass and figure out what those cheap chinese junk Ebay high pop marine injectors did to the engine in my pick up....... after all this time it is still hydro locked so i doubt there is a hole in the piston...... need to get the heads off and take a look.

all Daimler did was rip all that was worth out of Chrysler and then hit the high road.

is it really worth all of the work?

and while were on the subject of chrysler and it's shittiness, i thought this was pretty interesting:

Bring back the Dodge Aries!

BTW I am of the opinion that only ONLY the interstate highways should be salted, local/state Highways should NOT be salted, just cleared and require everyone to use snow tires.(at least on vehicle drive tires)

...really, salt is a nasty corrosive substance, and it pollutes our streams and rivers.

Hello

In Quebec Canada in the winter months it is mandatory winter tires. If you are caught with summer/all season your car is pulled off the road till you have winter tires. In Alberta they don't use a lot of salt so our cars don't rust like Ontario.

Thank you for the heads up on these problems. I need to find a new DD for the wife and will keep an eye out for that.

igiveup

AWD and Yokhama Golander AT-S tires, didn't need winter tires. I actually felt insulted when I lived in Spokane and my father in law kept trying to get me buy chains.

Sounds like the ingenious placement of the oil filter on my Ranger.
