New to the forum here, I love reading the tech library, so I joined up to see if I could get some help.
I recently made a purchase of some wheels from a guy on craigslist, they appear to be steel wheels with chrome plating, possible painted chrome. The problem? They have built up some pretty decent rust around the lug area, totally live-able, and drive-able, but just aesthetically displeasing.
I would like to strip it down and grind off the rust
But now I am wondering:
1. Is there a process to strip the chrome down, so I can get to the bare steel, and paint them black?
2. Is re-chroming better/cheaper to do?
3. Is the stripping process something I can do safely in my garage with per-se a die grinder, sand paper, a dremel and some elbow grease? or is it more of a chemical strip type thing?
All comments are appreciated! Thank you!!
