Where do I go for something like this? What is a reasonable price? Can a chip give me both a little more power and alot better fuel economy? thanks

Can't do both! Takes more fuel to have more power. Takes less fuel to have better milage..
Big JIm

Drop a Cummins in it :D you will get both lol.

if you want more power and mpg it may take more than just a chip. my bud just did a throttle body spacer, cold air intake, and chipped his 5.4 f150 and the mpg's skyrocketed and so did his low end torque.

haha i'm suprised that you haven't recieved a beatdown yet for saying that. Alot of the dudes on this website are like a bunch of communist and they feel the need to bash the heck out of people who promote bolt on mods.

the "chip" most likely is what gave him better performance TB Spacers and CAI do little if anything for performance

He did say he did alot of other mods, I can't remember what exactly. But he made it sound like the chip made the big difference. He also said the chip cost him around $700. If I spend $700 on a vehicle I do plan to keep until the thing rots btw, I want to make it worth it. I don't really need more power, but can you ever have enough? haha... I've been getting between 12 and 17 mpg since I've owned it. I think it was about a year and 9 months ago I saw my mileage go from 16ish to 13ish between fill-ups and it stayed that way for a while. Bad gas? different gas used in the colder months than in the hotter months? I don't see why I can't get around 20 mpg's with this vehicle. My friend with the chipped full sized dodge is getting high 20's and I think he said his horse power and torque sky rocketted, like almost doubled. I forget the numbers though. My point is, if the chip pays for itself in, say... 3 years by saving me money on gas and gives me the extra power I might need once or twice, great!

Maybe I would need more than a chip, Idk, thats where you guys come in, lol. The only thing I've done for mods with this engine is a drop-in K&N air filter.

What is your take on nitrogen in the tires?
HHO kit?
port matching the intakes on this type of engine?

I'm dealing with a vehicle with 17,000 miles and its still under warranty. Almost everything is in great/ like new condition and I don't want to void too much of my warranty. So for at least a few years, I don't want to go too deep into the mechanics of this vehicle and mess something up or spend too much money and time on something for what its worth.

Howdy Mike

That's a good looking ride. What size are those tires? If I'm not mind muddled that ride came with a 31 inch tire. Have you put taller tires on it? If so that could be the difference in your milage..
Your SOHC engine is engineered to be about the best it can be straight from the factory. I really like mine.
In truth to find your milage you should get on a freeway and drive it at the speed limit till the tank is empty and then drive back home and average your milage both ways.
Start and stop milage varies greatly. Sometimes I get as low as 12mpg if it takes a week or more to use up a tank.
On a slow trip of a thousand miles following a mobile home my ride got a little more than 22mpg. But that was the only time.

31 inch BFG tires, came with... 28 1/2"? if I remember correctly. I have a 4:10 differential, which I'm told is better suited with 31" tires than anything smaller. I kind of wish I just kept the stock tires and put them on the Alcoa rims if thats possible, because these tires were more expensive and will cost me alot to replace and I don't go mudding or anything. I also think I should have just went with the 3:73.

if thats how you determine your mileage then its not going to be very accurate. the best way in my opinion to determine your gas mileage is... fill your tank up before a trip. let the pump stop on its own, do not put any more gas in it after it clicks off. reset your trip gauge and go on your trip...try to make it back to the same gas station and the same pump for your next refill. do the same thing again with the second fill up. do not add any more gas after the first click of the pump. get out your cell phone calculator.. look at your mileage on your trip and divide that by the gallons that you put into your car on the second fill up. i usually get about 18 when i drive city/highway mix. on interstate only i have gotten up to 20.5. I have a 4.0 ohv and 3.73 gear with 31"x10.5" tires.truck has 250000 miles on it. (returning to the same pump will ensure accuracy, but is not necessary if you need just a rough figure) sorry for screwing the thread.

Oh, don't you worry. The beatdown has been scheduled. As a member of the TRS communist republic, I know how much we hate wasting money on worthless bolt ons. :icon_thumby:

Not to start something, but Communist Republic? Doesn't that contradict itself? Then again, America is supposed to be a Democratic Republic, right?
