has anbody swapped a Chevy 350 into a four wheel drive ranger. I need some ideas for the headers, preferably fenderwell exit as there is no room for much else. (sm465 tranny,np205, HDdana 44 front axle custom 4 link and 2005 Dana 70 rearend with disks also 4 link and 39.5 boggers) still in the production stages.

Why? I can't stand it when people swap other brand stuff into other vehicles. Just drop a 302 or a 351 in it.

I don't see anywhere where he asked your opinion.....

Jegs sells some "universal" fenderwell headers, or else you're likely going to have tio make a custom set. There were a couple other guys who have done this swap, although I can't remember their member names right off the top of my head. I'm all for it :icon_thumby:

I think it was Stealth that put a SBC in his RBV, I haven't seen him around for quite awhile though. You might search for posts by that name, but I am thinking he might have disappeared before the last forum change so there might not be anything on it.

When you(or someone else) posts a thread with this question in it, on a Ford vehicle forum, you should expect replys as such. Ain't nothing personal. You'll get the same response posting a Ford V8 swap into a GM product on a GM forum. Get used to it. :bye: There have been several SBC swaps in Rangers here but all I think have been 2wd's. With the limited space between the firewall and radiator, swapping in a SBC is really a bad idea. Doing a SBF is hard enough in a 4wd.

i don't remember if it was here or b2.org someone had swaped a 454 big block into a bronco 2. as far as fender exit i am not sure of but maybe a set of camaro shorties might work or s10 swap headers.

I have no such bias to ford, chevy, dodge or the like. They are all just parts. Steel and alloys. Some better than others. I still want to strangle the Ford Engineer who decided to put like, 50 bolts in the damn water pump, and hug the chevy guy for only 4 bolts in their water pumps. :)

As for a SBC, I dont see why it cant be done. You will have to cut the firewall to make room for the distributer. Fabricating motor mounts is a snap. Where you may run into issues is the oil pan. Hell, man. Go for it. But remember that far to many people take name brands to heart. A bunch of ford people will be pissed off.

with a ttb 4x4 you will have issues that are not too bad...but this isnt the case. its sas.

sas 4x4 is a cake swap....big block chevies arent shit in that case..simplest way was using a custom tube member for jeep applications since your sas. those usually require the rounder pan, or moddin the k tube of the jeep swap member. theres a place that makes em for chevy trucks too but i dont know the name of it. see em in alot of big blazers lately. some camaro manifolds and your good to go with minor clearancing for the wall, which depending on cooling setup may require cut and fit or just a lil hammerin.. jeep radiator works too pretty good, but you will want to mod the support to move it forward. i would just use a uni summit radiator and taurus fan.

if you need ac its gonna be a lil more work. depending on skills anyway... it may be alot more work. older gm van units are workable solutions to that though. the older metel units are easier to mod. i was thinking of using one as i saw a truck that incorporated one some years ago.

its pretty easy really compared to a mod motor

Brand loyalty is ignorant.:annoyed:

I agree, it is too bad that someone is willing to stay with a engine of a different brand rather than try something else just because they are not as familar with it.

But it is his truck and his call, more power to him whichever way he goes. It is still interesting and I hope keeps us updated with pictures and progress reports of this project. There have been others asking about this as well, and not many have done this to report back.

No more ignorant than installing a Chevy motor in a Ford or any other vehicle. I'm partial to the new Chevy V8's, they've come around to Ford's way of building em. Even the heads will interchange onto a Ford Windsor block. :icon_rofl::icon_rofl:

Cuz they are cheaper to build, make more power for less

Actually, because nobody wants to build them they are not as expensive as you would think.

I have a rebuildable complete pan to carb 1967 289 with a 2wd C-4, I got it for hauling it out of the huys basement. The engine bores are in spec, the crank has some scoring and will need turned. As of right now I have $10 in it, for a dual sump oil pan. I need send the crank off to get turned and start ordering parts so I can get it back together, now that I finally found a 4x4 C4/C5 transmission I lost my biggest excuse for putting it off.

I see SBC longblock cores on craigslist for $200+ in droves...

I put a 302 ford with a C4 in a friends 87 gmc s15 (the 302 fits in it better than a sbc does), it was a blast to drive, going 60 mph downshift into second, floor it, and it would just smoke the tires like crazy!
