Today while I was driving the "check fuel cap" light came on. The gas cap was on. There are no visible leaks. I did not notice a fuel smell around the gas cap or filler neck, but I did notice a faint fuel smell around the vapor canister.

I'm going to try replacing the gas cap first just to be sure, but I've got a sinking feeling it's something else.

I checked for codes. There are none.

Can the vapor canister be removed with the bed on? My truck has Line-X covering the bed bolts, so it's really only accessible from below.

I tried another code reader and did finally get a code...P0457: Evap Leak (fuel cap loose/off).

I really hope this evap leak doesn't turn into a wild goose chase.

Tried that, no go. And the canister definitely stinks.

I'm not sure how to diagnose it from here though. The canister and purge solenoid are kind of expensive parts to play the guessing game with.

It ended up being the vacuum line to the purge valve. Somehow it got knocked loose. I plugged it back up, cleared the code, and everything seems fine now.
