Lets start off, I have a 99 Ranger XLT with a 2.5L and 5 speed manual. I had now check engine light before I started changing out my clutch master and slave cylnders but now I do. I went back through all the electrical connections that I had disconnected when I pulled the tranny and everything is connected.

Is there some kind of troubleshooting tree or something that I can follow to track down the trouble maker? Any help would be great! Thanks!

Try disconnecting your negative battery cable for twenty seconds or so and then reconnect it to reset the computer.

If the light comes back on, you're going to need to scan for codes. If you have any codes post them up here and we'll try to help. Later.

got it, it was the O2 sensor on the exhaust manafold. the wife was nice to me and baught me a new OBD2 reader. :) now i am just trying to get the computer to go through all its tests so i can get my truck smog check.

Now I just cant get the PCM to perform it test for the EVAP system.

I finally got it to to all the PCM tests!! :) It only took 5 days :( I had did a lot of research for the "Trip / Drive cycle" of OBD 2 PCM. I had found a couple of good websites the helped a whole lot and figured you all might want to see them if you might need them in the future.

The first one helped the most. It has downloadale .pdf files of the ODB2 for every year model from 1996-2007 and diesel. Hope this helps you all like it did for me. I didnt see any for the OBD1 PCM for 1983-1995, Sorry, I just didnt look for those. I will look later for them to help them out.
