OK so first off I'm new here this is my first post actually. A couple months ago I bought my first car a 2001 Ford Ranger XLT v6 4.0L. I got a bunch of work done on it, All Fluids replaced, Rack and Pinion replaced, New shocks put in, and New Breaks. Things that still need to be dealt with are A/C compressor is bad, Shift Indicator is bad, and I need to replace the seats and carpets. But for right now it's my daily driver and it's driving nice. But just recently I'm getting a Check engine light popping up and my obd2 scanner gives me the code P0122 my understanding is this has something to do with the throttle anyone know anything else about that code?
Thanks.

Oh and I forgot to mention I'm only getting like 12 miles to the gallon driving mostly highway miles in Florida that's not right is it?? I keep hearing about people getting 18-20 MPG with the same motor. Should I clean my O2 sensor or something?

Probably needs a new throttle position sensor.

Yes you should be getting more than 12 MPG highway. The 4.0 is not known for great fuel economy, but 12 is wrong. I get about 17 combined. I would replace the TPS, plugs and wires, and see what the fuel economy does before looking into oxygen sensors.

Cool thanks for the insight I'll replace the TPS when I replace the Compressor and if that doesn't do anything for me I'll look at my plugs and wires but they look really clean and I think they where replaced before I bought the truck.

Just type PO122 into your browser, you'll get all the information you could ever want.

And yes, it is a TPS code. Replacing it will likely fix it.

You've not messed with the idle stop screw, I hope. Moving that can throw off the PCM, as the throttle arm has to be in a certain place relative to where the TPS knows idle to be.
