i have a 95 ranger 4.0 sohc the check engine light was on i took it to two shops both said it was a code for the air canister .Both said that its to expensive to trouble shoot and not to worrie about it but i dont want that light on also i cant get a inspection stick with it on. Both shops said air canisters never go bad and not to worry .does anyone have any help for me or live in westen mass and can help me thanks

Wow, you need a new mechanic.

The #1 reason for evaporative emissions codes is a bad or poorly installed fuel cap.

I'd suggest replacing the fuel cap and running it through a "drive cycle" (or finding a buddy with an OBD-II code reader or scanner that can reset the code for you). An OBD-II drive cycle means running the vehicle through every possible type of driving.

As for expensive to diagnose, they really should share some of that stuff they are smoking.

so just get a new fuel cap thaks it i thought it had somthing to do with the vacume

if you remember the actual code that was retrieved from the system, it would be a great help for you to post it.
