My 96 2.3l does not seem to have a check engine light. The lights on the dash when I turn the key on are for the air bag, seat belt, battery and when I crank the engine over to start it the brake light comes on (even though my e-brake is set, the light only comes on when I crank the engine). My buddy says it wont pass the OBD-II emissions because my check engine light is not coming on, any ideas on why? I know its small, but the engine is there, even without the light I still checked and it was there :icon_rofl:

Not sure if this should be here or in electrical forum but I figure they will move it if need be:icon_thumby:

is the bulb burnt out? mine is.

Its way more of a PITA to change than it should be. so be prepared to take 1/2 your dash apart just to get to the silly bulb.

Yeah, the two obvious possibilities are a burned out bulb or somebody putting tape over it. In either case, you'll need to start by pulling the dash apart so you can check the bulb and the cover.

Thanks, I'll try it when I get a chance. At least if it is burned out or taped, I can run codes to find out what is wrong

yup. I bought a 40.00 code scanner @ harbor freight. It told me I have two codes that apparently have no fix...I'm thrilled. (slight sarcasm)

Does your Cig Lighter work?

They share the same fuse, IIRC.

There's no such thing as a code that has no fix. What did you actually get as results?

:D it was slight sarcasm

but since you asked
P0340
P0300

looks like most ppl that have the cam sensor circuit malfunction never post up a fix. there are many posts of "I did x,y, and z but nothing has worked."

the multiple random misfires i have no idea. I have noticed on occasion (maybe a cpl times a week) The idle will dip @ a redlight. so I guess that could be a misfire or 2...not sure.

The only maintenance I know has been performed is plugs/wires/fuel filter (because I did that.)

I'm about to replace the fuel filler neck hose as its preventing me from filling my tank more than 1/2 or so. that's irritating. and the fuel stink in the garage is less than pleasant. it should be here this weekend. will likely install next week.

I was considering looking about the Cam pos. sensor's wiring for a fault, but I haven't made myself do that yet...Is there a way to test the sensor?

Go to your library and look in the reference section. You should be able to find the Mitchell guide for 95 Domestic Light Trucks and Vans. It will have the year specific troubleshooting info you need.

Heh. I won't argue that point. They do have the answers you need though. I've never done any troubleshooting on an OBD2 system, but the Mitchell (or factory EVTM if you have access) are fantastic for chasing down a problem like this. Step by step component testing so you nail the problem right the first time without throwing any wasted parts at it.

You bet! I'm not a huge fan of the art of part throwing.:D

Thanks. I'll have to find the library:icon_confused: haven't been there in many moons.
